2004 WORLD JUNIOR “B”

CURLING CHAMPIONSHIPS (WJBCC)

TAARNBY, DENMARK … 6 - 10 January 2004

1.      World Curling Federation (WCF) rules apply, unless otherwise indicted below or explained at the Team Meeting (6th January 2004, CC Taarnby, 11:00 AM).

2.      The Junior Women (9 teams) will all be in one group and will play a single round-robin series. At the end of the round-robin series the team that is clearly ahead will be ranked in 1st position and will receive the WJBCC Junior Women’s Gold Medal and qualify their Association for the World Junior (WJCC) 2004. Clearly ahead means they must have more wins than any other team, or tiebreaker games will be required to determine that position. The 2nd and 3rd place teams will then play a playoff game for the Silver and Bronze medals, with the winner receiving the WJBCC Junior Women’s Silver Medal and qualifying their Association for the World Junior (WJCC) 2004. The loser of this game will receive the WJBCC Junior Women’s Bronze medal.

3.      The Junior Men (14 teams) will be divided into two (2) groups “MA” and “MB”.  The teams in each group are listed within this document. Each group plays a round-robin series. At the end of the round-robin series there must be a clear ranking for 1st and 2nd position in each group. The playoff format will then be:
- the first ranked team from MA will play against the first ranked team from MB, the winner of that game will receive the WJBCC Junior Men’s Gold Medal and qualify their Association for the World Junior (WJCC) 2004.  The loser of that game qualifies to play in the Silver/Bronze Medal game.
- the second ranked team from MA will play against the second ranked team from MB, the winner of that game will qualify to play in the Silver/Bronze Medal game.
- the winner of the Silver/Bronze Medal game will receive the WJBCC Junior Men’s Silver Medal and qualify their Association for the World Junior (WJCC) 2004. The loser of this game will receive the WJBCC Junior Men’s Bronze medal.

4.      All games will be eight (8) ends, with extra end(s) to break tied games.

5.      There will be a five minute practice for each team before each round-robin game. The practice starts at the scheduled game time.

6.      Team with last stone in the first end will practice first, followed by the second team’s practice, the ice will then be cleaned, and the game will start.

7.      Note - Indicates last stone in the first end.

8.      First named team in each draw plays stones with dark coloured handles, and should wear dark coloured upper playing garments.

9.      The Chief Umpire will determine the schedule and ice for any necessary tiebreaker games as soon as the number of games required and the opponents have been determined. The ice for the playoffs will also be determined by the Chief Umpire.
